|Name: Pablo Vasquez
Born – 1977 / Died – 2016
Number of victims: 1
Number of accomplices: 4
The murder took place in the Texas border town of Donna in 1998 while Vasquez was 21. The victim, 12 year-old David Cardenas was found in a manner that raised fears about occult activities in the area. The corpse of the poor boy was missing the arms, there was no skin on the back of the boy and he had a hole in the back part of his head.
On April 18, 1998, Pablo went to a party accompanied by more teens from his circle and consumed alcohol and cocaine. At the party he met young David [who was trying to fit in with an older crowd] and while walking home from the party the frenzy occurred.
Pablo confessed to hitting the boy on the head with a pipe and cutting his throat. He then proceeded to drag the body across an empty field [with the help of his cousin] and started to mutilate the body and drink his blood – it was claimed at the trial that voices told him to do so.
He was aided by his cousin Andres Rafael “Andy” Chapa, 15 at the time of the crime, who was later convicted to 35years in prison after pleading guilty. Some believe that he was the one that gave the anonymous tip leading to the discovery of the body and their subsequent arrest.
The relatives who assisted the perpetrators received fines and/or probation, and one was deported back to Guatemala.
Despite numerous appeals and attempts to have him diagnosed with a mental disorder, Pablo Velasquez was sentenced to death in 1999 and executed on April 6, 2016.
Kindly note that this article was not written with an intent to dive into extreme details as I believe that maintaining a respectful attitude towards the victims is more important than anything in this series of articles. Rest in peace, David!
