Name: Roderick Justin Ferrell Born – 1980 / Deceased – **** Number of victims: 2 Accomplices: Scott Anderson |
Born on the 28th of March of 1980, Roderick is the son of Sondra Gibson [she was 17 when she gave birth] and Rick Ferrell [also a teenager when he became a father]; his parents were married only for a week around the time he was born – enough for the boy to bare his father`s name. The mother remarried shortly after the divorce and left to live with her new husband leaving young Rod with his grandparents in Murray [Kentucky].
During his testimony Ferrell claimed that he was raped by his grandfather when he was 5 and that he was introduced into the world of occult practices by the couple.
The true transformation occurred later in life, when, as a teen, he started to play “Vampire: The Masquerade” a popular RPG [Role Play Game] that allowed him to assume the identity of a vampire and perform certain quests in real time. That is how Roderick Ferrell became Vesago – a 500 year old vampire.
He started to hang around with his friends [he would call them his cult or coven] at night in cemeteries frequently under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He would even superficially cut his arms to allow them to drink his blood.
Through the game, Rod met Heather Wendorf and they started a long-distance relationship. That is how, on the night of 22 or 23 November 1996, Vesago left his hometown to go see her.
He was accompanied by three of his friends: Charity Keesee [pregnant with Ferrell], Dana Cooper and Scott Anderson.
Rod and his accomplice gained entrance into the house via the garage [where they picked up the murder weapon from] and assaulted Richard while he was sleeping on the couch [Naoma was in the shower at that time].
The man didn`t stand a chance and he didn`t even have time to realize what was happening before he suffered serious injuries to the skull and broken ribs. Eventually it was the bleeding that killed him, a short time after the attack on him ceased.
When they were discovered by the woman, Rob crushed her skull with the crowbar.
The grabbed the keys to the car [a Ford Explorer] and a credit card and prepared the trip [speculations were made that the group was on its way to New Orleans, home of Anne Rice – famous writer, author of “The Vampire Chronicles”].
Before they left the house, Vesago took the time to sign his initial on the chest of his victim [Richard] by burning him with a cigar.
On the 25th of November 1996, Richard and Naoma were discovered dead by their older daughter, in their home in Eustis.
While the investigators were building up the case against them, the group of 5 was racing across the state and they made purchases using the card they stole. Keesee even called home and asked for money – with that occasion they were caught.
Keesee’s mother informed the police about her whereabouts and helped police trick Ferrell, Wendorf, and the rest of the teens into going to a local Howard Johnson’s hotel, where they were arrested by waiting law enforcement
From logs and e-mails the police established that Heather had told Rod to come help her escape and to kill her parents because it was the only way they could be together. Despite this and all the evidence she wasn`t convicted by the jury!
Rod confessed to his crime and maintained that he was a vampire during the whole time.
In the end Rod Ferrell was a disturbed 17 year old whose emotional age, according to psychologist, was only that of a three year old.
The trial ended in 1998 with the following ruling:
– Roderick Ferrell was initially sentenced to death by electroshock and for 2 years he was the youngest man on death row in the US. But the psychologists concluded that he could not be held responsible for the crimes because he suffered from double personality [he continues to identify himself as Vesago after all these years]. In September 1999 his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
– Scott Anderson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
– Dana Cooper and Charity Keesee got 10 years and a half for complicity to murder.
Complete list of victims:
– Naoma Ruth
– Richard Wendorf
Over the years several projects were announced based on the events presented in this article, but few were finished. I mention the movies:
– “Mother, may I sleep with danger”, launched in 1996 starring Tori Spelling and Ivan Sergei;
– “Vampire Clan”, launched in 2002 starring Drew Fuller and Kelly Kruger
