The saga of “The Vampire Chronicles” by Anne Rice has most certainly been a long and, often times, hard-to-keep-up-with one.
The rights to the vast universe created by Rice have been bought several times over the years, with multiple networks announcing that they would turn the novels into a series, however all hope seamed lost when a project fell through last year (just a couple of weeks before going into pre-production, might I add)
I kept my expectations in check when it was announced later that the project was revamped with AMC getting the ball rolling this year.
A first 8-episode season was announced at the beginning of 2021 and the principal cast was announced in August.
Perhaps the most anticipated announcement was the confirmation that the vampiric universe had found its new prince – Australian actor Sam Reid will be the 3rd actor to give life to Lestat de Lioncourt. While Tom Cruise`s shoes are certainly hard to fill, I look forward to seeing how Reid`s interpretation will fair, considering his previous work.
The star power of the new series is pumped by British actor Jacob Anderson [aka Grey Worm from “Game of Thrones”] who is set to interpret the conflicted Louis.
With filming set to start in December and a release date to be announced for Spring of 2022, there is even more to look forward to because the deal signed for the movie rights also included Anne Rice`s secondary book series – the life of the Mayfair Witches.
