FX is producing an adaptation of “The Strain” – a 2009 vampire horror novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It is part of a trilogy that was later followed by 2 more novels so there`s plenty of room for more seasons to come. They are currently on season 4
The series is name – you guessed it!!! – “The Strain” and part of the series success is assured by the fact that Guillermo del Toro is a co-writter for all the episode scrips.
The main idea of the series is that of a vampiric epidemic in modern day New York. We have the old and the new magnificently intertwined as the main character, dr. Ephraim Goodweather attempts to scientifically explain the phenomenon when professor Abraham van Helsing [u, sry! 😛 ] Setrakian enters the stage and explains the century known facts about the strigoi and their Master. In essence almost all of the established powers and weaknesses of the vampires are kept in the description, however there`s a certain scientific spin given.
The vampire is presented more as a parasite. The vector for vampirism is a capillary worm, which, once introduced into the human host’s bloodstream introduces an incurable and fast-acting virus. By manipulating the host’s genes, the virus causes a human to undergo numerous, radical physical changes. It kills the host then feeds on it until it turns it into a perfect shell. Once full turned it proceeds to reproducing by infecting other people.
In the movie a great deal of emphasis it put on the idea that the dead return to feed on the people they loved most.

Corey Stoll – Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the CDC Canary Team in New York City.
